Mechanical Engineer Position Available (Direct Hire) - Willoughby, OH
Kelly Services is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer for one of their top manufacturing clients in the Willoughby, OH area.
JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Mechanical Design of new/modified industrial packaging handling parts. Handling parts transfer the container from one part of the filling line to another, such as from the infeed conveyor to the filler, from the filler to the capper, from the capper to the exit conveyor and so on.
Lead the design strategies for new equipment and new markets outside the beverage industry. Manage Handling Division R&D projects as assigned.
Coordinate the implementation of SolidWorks drawings, exploded assembly prints and standardized part numbers and descriptions.
Lead process improvement initiatives and implementation of new processes.
Maintain schedule for all sales orders requiring engineering design. Ensure timely completion and submittal of BOM’s and design drawings.
Supervise staff of up to five Mechanical Engineers; managing performance, timelines, quality and innovative designs.
Reverse engineering of handling parts upon request.
Coach, mentor and train additional handling engineers in design methods and historical data.
Check handling drawings for accuracy and historical cohesion.
Assist project manager with final verification of material and components prior to shipment.
Provide backup support to Sales Engineer for handling parts not yet produced by the Company. Research previous design drawings and customer equipment to provide design drawings for customer needs.
Provide engineering support to Production, Inspection and Assembly departments
Provide technical support for field audits, equipment startups, and new product testing
Design and create parts, through drawing/Bill of Material creation and system management.
Support to Technical Writer for catalog/manual development
Other duties as assigned by the Handling Division Process Manager in conjunction with the Director of Engineering & Product Assembly
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or 2+ Years Mechanical Design or Equivalent Experience
Demonstrated Advanced AutoCAD Mechanical and SolidWorks skills
Proficiency with measuring devices such as calipers and CMM equipment
Experience in a structured new product development environment
Able to identify problems and develop solutions
Experience working with variety of different materials including Nylon, Stainless Steel, Rubbers, etc.
Design for cost effectiveness and manufacturability
Design of transfer components preferably in beverage/packaging
Travel - Approximately 20%
Mechanical Design utilizing CAD tools, AutoCAD and SolidWorks a must
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Proficient working on multiple projects/tasks simultaneously
Solid computer skills with a variety of software tools including Microsoft Office products
Good verbal/written/technical communication
