Job Description

Shipping Inspector (Dangerous Goods Specialist) needed! Position hours are Monday-Friday, 6 am to 2 pm. Company is located in the Mason/West Chester area. This is a temp to hire opportunity with a growing company.

Main duties will include inspection of hazmat freight that will be moving by various modes (air/ocean/ground) for International shipments. The creation of Dangerous Goods shipper documents.

  • Strong organization skills and attention to details are essential in this position.

  • Ability to work independently, diligently, and think strategically to solve issues.

  • Ability to adapt to change. Good with Microsoft Office (mainly Excel); able to easily adapt to other software programs.

  • In the US, hazmat is the accepted term, but internationally they use the term "dangerous goods", which is why this is used in the job description; because the company is shipping internationally.

Requirements

The selected individual will have to go through and pass Compliance Training online to become certified.

  • Hazmat/Automotive Logistics and/or previous Traffic Office experience for a large scale shipper would be ideal.

  • This position will cross train to support various areas within the traffic office.

These are inspections of packaged boxed parts; not open and exposed material. The candidate would not be handling the parts, only inspecting the packages they are packed into. The packing and handling of the parts is all done by the plant employees.

The parts being packed would be airbags, pretensioners, pneumatics (boosters, struts, absorber), batteries, just to name the most common you see in the automotive industry.

  • The candidate would then take the inspection paperwork and use it to create what is called the DGD (dangerous goods document). This document lays out for the shipper what the material is and they use to it know how they can ship the material.

  • Position will involve going back and forth between the warehouse and the office as needed throughout the day. To go into the warehouse everyone needs a safety vest, safety glasses and closed toed (non canvas or gym mesh) shoes. PPE required is provided.
