Job Description

Position Title: Cost Accounting Manager $70-75K

Temporary position for approximately three to four months.

Location: Turlock

Department: Accounting

Reports to: North America Controller

Positions Reporting to this Position: Accounts Payable

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsibilities include managing Cost Accounting, month-end accounting and analysis, preparation of various weekly and monthly production control reports, supervise account payable processing, and special projects as need arises. This position will also provide assistance to North America Controller monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting. This position generally works independently but under the direction of North America Controller.

Key competencies:

Advanced knowledge of JDE manufacturing (bill of materials, cost components, variances, etc.)

Advanced MS Excel. MS Access a plus.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manufacturing Accounting

a. Ensures all work orders are posted to the GL on a timely basis (weekly or bi-weekly).

b. Reconcile variances to GL each month.

c. Review of manufacturing variances.

i. Integrity analysis. Review potential costing or human errors.

ii. Variance analysis. Review variance sources and investigate the variance drivers.

d. Create summary variance reports by product Brand.

e. Maintain Amortization file for Manufacturing and Purchase Product Variances (PPV).

f. Post monthly journal entry to reclass variance amount.

  1. Production Metrics and Statistics

a. Must have a deep understanding of Raw Material inputs and drivers about Sensient grown products (onion, garlic, and Parsley), as well as purchased products (Chili and Vegetables). Manufacturing activities range from dehydration, to cooking, milling, blending, and repacking.

b. Understand and report on production Key Performance Indicators.

c. Review and Reconcile rate of overhead absorption & the respective Deferred Inventory Accounts as the inventory is produced.

  1. Update Costs

a. Change item standard cost periodically as necessary.

i. Ensures item costs agree across the different JDE branches

ii. Performs other integrity checks to ensure no cost issues exist.

iii. Reviews and updates work center rates.

b. Works with purchasing team and accounts payable to calculate standard cost of purchased items.

i. Factors to consider are cost of materials, freight, labor & overhead rates, etc.

  1. Review Bill Of Material

a. Periodically review Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy.

b. Perform BOM integrity checks.

c. Review inactive/obsolete items.

d. Ensures all items have the correct Material and Labor components.

  1. Month-end Processes

a. Reviews Received-not-vouchered list and amounts.

b. Makes journal entries for in-transit inventory.

c. Reconciles Yield Usage & Work-In-Process accounts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.

Experience: Five to seven years of Cost Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.

Skills & Abilities:

This individual must have the ability to work both independently and as a team player within an office. This individual must be able to work in an organized fashion and yet be able to re-prioritize based on the immediate needs of his/her immediate supervisor.

This person must have a solid understanding of accounting and various software packages. This person must have the ability to not only identify an accounting problem/issue but must possess the ability to -fix- the root of the problem and update an account to its proper amount/balance.

It is essential that this individual accepts responsibility for a wide variety of important routine and non-routine tasks. This person needs to be very detail-oriented, and yet not lose site of the bigger picture as much of this individual-s work is not reviewed at a detail level. This person must possess the ability to research and complete projects with minimal supervision and to the expectation level of a professional accountant.

This person must be able to be entrusted with confidential information.
