Quality Assurance (QA) Technician - Food, Torrance, CA

Summary: The QA Technician position, which reports directly to the shift QA Supervisor. In addition to the routine QA/C functions, QA Technician will assist the QA Management to develop / maintain / implement food safety and quality protocols, investigate food safety and quality issues, and develop/implement corrective actions. The QA Technician will also serve as a liaison between QA and other department, and provide guidance to QA Technicians in the absence of QA Management.

Shift/Schedule: Monday through Friday, 2nd shift: 1:00 pm - 9:30pm

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine food safety and quality assurance functions as assigned by QA Management, which include but are not limited to the following

  • Verification audits for:

  • Food safety & pre-requisite programs

  • Process QC

  • Laboratory QA/C tests for raw materials and finished products, which include Moisture, pH/TTA, Brix, Colors, Texture, Sensory, etc.

  • Product sensory evaluation

  • Quality hold and investigation.

  • Assist the SQF Practitioner to verify SQF certification compliance and to prepare for certification audit, which include registries audit, food security evaluation, SQF training, etc.

  • Assist the QA Management to investigate food safety and quality issues and to develop / implement corrective actions.

  • Report issues / non-conformances to the QA and Ops Management in a concise and timely manner.

  • Participate in departmental and cross-functional continuous improvement projects as assigned by the QA Management.

  • Train QA and Ops personnel on food safety and quality programs as required by the QA Management.

  • Assist the QA Management to develop / update / maintain / implement food safety and quality protocols.

  • Act as a liaison between QA and other Ops departments, and provide guidance to QA Technicians in the absence of QA Management.

  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the QA Management.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • 2 - 4 year of QA/C experience in food manufacturing or related fields is required.

  • Hands-on experience on QA/C testing methods, especially those related to food manufacturing

  • Good working knowledge HACCP and pre-requisite programs like Good Manufacturing Practices, Chemical Controls, etc.

  • Hands-on food safety and quality verification audit experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally as well as in writing; bilingual in English / Spanish is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in team based and fast paced work environment.

  • Proficient computer skills: MS Excel / Word / Outlook.

  • Willing and able to work flexible schedule.
