Category Manager

Reporting to the Director, Supply Chain, as a member of the Supply Chain team, the Category Manager is accountable to ensure effective sourcing and contracting for business unit specific needs. As the Category Manager, the main objective is to ensure effective supply chain procurement of major components, indirects, materials and logistics supporting all categories and business units are executed in a timely manner – delivering, reliable and cost effective materials and services to corporate head office and business units.

Specifically, the Category Manager will lead collaborative initiatives of high and low value for corporate and cross business unit spend, in developing, implementing, and managing quotations and contracting across many categories. The Category Manager will support the Director in supplier selection, management and negotiation on spend for procurement of major components, materials, indirects (e.g hotel/travel, corporate services, fleet). Additional responsibilities include complying with all relevant company policy and regulations.

  • Work with business unit and internal customers to define specification and scope of work for inclusion in contracts

  • Lead or assist in executing standard form contracts in support of the Mechanical, Instrumentation, Capex and Indirects (eg. Corporate Services, Accommodation & Travel, Fleet)

  • Assist Director with strategic sourcing projects including but not limited to market research, negotiations, contracting, quoting, supplier stewardship, contract management and issues.

  • Conduct desktop audits of suppliers to ensure contractual obligations are met

  • Ensuring security of supply at optimal total cost of ownership

  • Minimizing contracting risk to BJ Services by working closely with business, managers and legal for direction in the formation of contracts

  • Ensuring Supply Chain strategies are aligned with business and category strategies, and are successfully implemented within the business unit

  • Maintain all purchase agreements and trade agreements with updated pricing, INCO terms and all other data points that may change

  • Ensuring effective contract implementation, management and sustainment is coordinated within the business unit procurement team

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Proven expertise is required in the areas of strategic sourcing, contract management, philosophy, risk assessment and mitigation, supplier evaluation and negotiations, purchase order and contract awards, contract implementation, and management of supplier relations and performance levels

  • Expertise with the equipment, materials, or goods and services in the Category

  • Expertise in Category Management of purchase and trade agreements for major components, parts and equipment, materials, good and services

  • Expertise in negotiation and proven skill of securing best cost efficient value for the company

Experience:

  • Minimum 5-10 years’ relevant experience with a background in Legal, Business, or Finance within Supply Chain Management desirable

  • Strong leadership, project management and facilitation skills are required, proven track record as a strategic thinker

  • Must have solid negotiation skills with the ability to challenge established thinking

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and internal customers across diverse regions with similar but regionally complex requirements

  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of an ERP, SAP and/or Microsoft Dynamics AX beneficial

  • Manage and leverage category and team to recommend optimal procurement strategies that promote cost effective solutions and operational efficiency

  • Ensure team performs price comparisons and proposal reviews, within budgetary limitations and scope of authority, to achieve best pricing and value for BJ Services

  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers/vendors to secure advantageous terms

  • Utilize contracts established and ensure they are communicated to the procurement team and executed accordingly

  • Serve as liaison between Supply Chain, Legal and supplier

  • Ensure contracts are vetted thru legal, executed and maintained in Sharepoint database

  • Advise Director of contractual rights and obligations
