Our client has an immediate need for a General Counsel on a full-time, permanent basis. This opportunity will report to the Chief Executive Officer, will work alongside the Associate General Counsel and will manage a team of 6-10 staff members. Work cross-functionally with legal staff, senior leadership and outside counsel to collaborate and negotiate optimal resolution to a wide spectrum of contract matters;
Be heavily immersed in contract negotiations, corporate legal issues, special project initiatives and international relations;
Develop and introduce sound new business processes and procedural improvements;
Evaluate and implement new data retention, business assessments, cost reductions and business elevations;
Propose effective solutions to legal on various business issues in an effort to mitigate risk and further new business interests and objectives and escalate to outside counsel when appropriate;
Offer clear and concise business goals and guidelines towards positively impacting companywide initiatives;
Judge merits of litigation, work with appropriate executives to define a strategic defense and approve settlement of disputes where warranted;
Advise and support Human Resources on matters related to labor and employment issues;
Provide overall management of the Intellectual Property Portfolio;
Manage all significant legal issues, cases and matters of high impact to the business;
Ensure compliance and exercise the highest level of integrity and ethics;
Carefully manage confidential information, communications and communication requests/requirements to and from external sources on high-impact issues.
Must have a broad knowledge contract law and negotiations, employment law, project finance and general in-house practice.
A full understanding and ability to manage and provide direction on all company contracts; development, supply, customer-based, purchase orders, etc.
A full understanding of promoting core business values to maximize personal and team success across the business.
Possess excellent analytical and issue-spotting skills.
JD with 7+ years corporate inhouse and/or law firm experience
Admitted to CT Bar or admitted as Authorized House Counsel
Ability to successfully operate and manage staff
Familiarity with serving as a direct point of contact for contract matters
Familiarity with working directly with clients and outside counsel
Offer strong time management, communication (verbal and written) and leadership skills
