Title : System Engineer

Location : Seneca Falls, NY

Duration : Contract to Hire

Pay : $35 - 45/hr (W2 Only)

Under the direction of the Global Data Center Services Director, this individual provides support for hosted data center services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing support for all Wintel-based environments.

A successful candidate will be able to manage systems and storage dedicated to hosting of systems, data and related technologies within our corporate data center as well as remote data centers and globally distributed locations. This role will be a key contributor to the administration and optimization of our data center infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements:

  • College Degree in computer science, information sciences or related field and 3-5 years of experience; or 5+ years relevant experience.

  • Strong knowledge of Wintel computer hardware & operating systems (Windows 2003, 2008, 2012, 2016) is required.

  • Working knowledge in enterprise backup disk based solutions (DPM, Azure Backup).

  • Knowledge of industry standard maintenance practices and monitoring tools is required.

  • Experience with Windows Active Directory is required.

  • Working knowledge in Microsoft VMM is preferred.

  • Working knowledge in Microsoft SCCM is preferred.

  • Working knowledge in Microsoft SCOM is preferred.

  • Working knowledge in enterprise storage solutions is preferred.

  • Experience with PowerShell is a plus.


  • Provides subject matter expertise (SME) on communications and communication content, impact and timing.

  • Understands when new or alternate solutions are necessary, and begins discussions with IT management and business/functional partners to identify needed improvements to the solution/service framework.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Executes the team’s objectives for local and global data centers.

  • Administers Wintel platform and maintains the required configuration.

  • Provides on going technical support for the Wintel environments globally to assure cost effective computer operation.

  • Evaluates, recommends, and implements the change, upgrade, or removal of current hardware or software systems.

  • Works with appropriate business partners to implement new hardware or software as required.

  • Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, and makes recommendations.

  • Ensures security standards are being met, and takes appropriate steps when deficiencies are uncovered.

  • Assists in disaster recovery testing as requested.

  • Remediates incident and service requests.

  • Drafts operational documentation as required.

  • Provide support for the following applications & hardware globally:

  • Microsoft System Center 2012/2016

  • Configuration Manager at , Virtual Machine Manager at , Operations Manager at , Orchestrator at , Service Manager at

  • Virtualization: Hyper-V 2012/2016, VMWare 4.0 VCenter

  • Storage: HP 3PAR, Dell Compellent, HP StoreOnce

  • Hardware: HP blades and chassis, Dell servers

  • Backup: Data Protection Manager at , BackupExec, Azure Backup, StorSimple.

  • Strong working knowledge of Windows OS, DNS, HTTP/S, SSH, LDAP, PXE, DHCP, TFTP, PowerShell, and AD.

  • Expectations of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Implement and manage large scale backup storage systems and infrastructure.

  • Build and configure Windows based virtual and physical (where required) servers.

  • Maintain continuous availability of the environment and contribute to improvement practices.

  • Perform infrastructure troubleshooting, resolve issues, and document solutions.

  • Make configuration changes to keep the infrastructure secure and reliable.

  • Develop automation for routine processes.

  • Participate in data protection discussions with business users, provide input and make recommendations on solutions to support internal users.

  • Be a team player and participate in an on-call rotation.

Work Conditions

  • Additional working hours as required.

  • Carry an assigned phone (employee chosen) 24x7 and be available for escalations as needed.

  • Travel less than 10% may be required for special projects.
