Metallurgical Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Apply extensive technical expertise/analysis to develop materials specifications for new products, and implement materials selection and processing improvements to existing products. Develop and implement new heat treatment processes, and implement improvements to existing heat treatment or surface treatment processes.

Job Duty

  • Completes projects.

  • Plans, conducts and implements research, development, or Engineering assignments generally involving several high impact and high complexity metallurgically-based or surface treatment manufacturing processes, usually in heat treat.

  • Solves high-complexity product problems related to materials selection or processing.

  • Defines materials specifications and heat treatments for optimization of assigned products.

  • Coordinates the work of Engineers, Technicians, and other support personnel and interacts with marketing, accounting, purchasing, manufacturing, product design and suppliers/customers.

  • Works on high-complexity metallurgically-based or surface treatment process problems, usually in heat treat, dealing with production down time, loss of or low efficiency, or quality deviations.

  • Accurately assesses strengths and developmental needs of engineering personnel (including MECOP students).

  • Gives specific feedback, helpful coaching, provides challenging assignments and opportunities for career development.

  • Builds skills and confidence to improve performance.

  • Identifies technological sources of information and utilizes that information to achieve goals/objectives.

  • Formulates & recommends technical direction for the division/product line.

  • Communicates technical concepts and information in non-technical, more easily understandable terms.

  • Conveys information clearly and effectively through both formal and informal documents.

  • Creates an atmosphere in which timely and high quality information flows smoothly between oneself and others; encourages the open expression of ideas and opinions.

Education

  • B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience should include exposure to and proficiency in multiple engineering disciplines
