Production Chemist I - ELISA, Pomona, CA

Summary: The position is responsible for manufacturing and performing laboratory analytical tasks. The Chemist will support both Manufacturing and/or Design Development as required. This position is a key member within the Bioconjugation Chemistry Laboratory.

As a Production Chemist I, you are responsible for manufacturing and assembly of clinical and commercial products. Operates production equipment. Weighs, measures and checks raw materials to ensure batches manufactured contain proper ingredients and quantities. May help in validating processes and equipment that are directly related to filtration, cleaning and sterilization. Maintains records and clean room environment to comply with regulatory requirements, good manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures. Assists chemist in pooling bulk and other tasks. May assist with in-process testing to ensure batches meet specifications.Implements production and large-scale manufacturing procedures to optimize processes and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include scale-up and troubleshooting for equipment and systems. May establish operating equipment specifications and improve manufacturing techniques. May assist with resolving technical issues, as well as maintenance of production equipment. May review existing operational and process discrepancies in manufacturing and provide technical expertise to improve procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Purification of enzyme conjugates using gel filtration chromatography, dialysis and HPLC.

  • Preparation of buffers and reagents for performing ELISA / HEIA and protein assays.

  • In-process testing of ELISA, HEIA and SEFRIA enzyme conjugates using absorbance readers and / or chemistry analyzers.

  • Weekly inventory of laboratory supplies and consumables.

  • Assists in transfer and qualification of analytical methods, including assay execution and final report writing.

  • Complies with SOP’s.

  • Analyzes and maintains data per applicable SOP’s.

  • Documents activities in a cGMP manner.

  • Performs investigation and resolution of out-of-spec events.

  • Prepares reagents and solutions as necessary to conduct analyses.

  • Performs routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.

  • Performs daily refrigerator temperature monitoring.

  • Works as part of inter-departmental teams, if required.

  • Carries out duties in compliance with established business policies.

  • Demonstrates commitment to the development, implementation and effectiveness of the Company Quality Management System per ISO, FDA and other regulatory agencies.

  • Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal/external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company’s policies and practices.

  • Understands and is aware of the quality consequences which may occur from the improper performance of their specific job. Has awareness of device defects that may occur in their area of responsibility, including product design, verification and validation, manufacturing and testing activities.

  • Perform other duties & projects as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Chemistry / Biochemistry / Biology

  • One (1) - two (2) years experience in a laboratory.

  • Must have experience running ELISA assays

  • Detail oriented.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Computer skills – Microsoft Windows and Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access.
