Hospital Laboratory Manager — Pendleton, OR

The Hospital Laboratory Manager will be responsible for all elements of the clinical laboratory operations at the local hospital - including point of specimen collection, specimen processing, public relations, testing and reporting for all entities within the area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct and supervise the technical staff, phlebotomists, specimen processors, and couriers within the site’s responsibility.

  • Supervisory responsibilities to include the following: recruiting, hiring, retention and turnover management, hours/overtime management, policy compliance, productivity management, quality control, evaluations, discipline/corrective action and training/development.

  • Monitor each site clinical laboratory and patient service center site, operations and quality through frequent site visits at all locations with a focus on our success of delivering clients high quality laboratory services.

  • Effective courier system that is efficient and cost effective which meets client and company needs

  • Actively evaluate, monitor, all cost/expense categories (especially personnel and associated expenses) on a monthly basis and reduce any and all costs whenever possible.

  • Actively evaluate and monitor the productivity and efficiency of each site and all associated personnel as a mechanism to reduce cost and enhance productivity.

  • Participate in Hospital and Corporate Manager meetings. Effectively manage client expectations.

  • Responsible for all operational activities in given area, including patient service centers, courier, specimen processing, specimen collection, and technical.

  • Responsible for corporate compliance/quality at given location.

  • Annual improvements in all areas of responsibility through the ongoing use of IQ tools.

  • Direct/manage operations in a manner that facilitates/supports sales in the area.

  • The ideal candidate will have some experience supervising and directing the training of lower level employees.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, biological sciences with 2 years of experience in high complexity testing; Master’s with 3 years; Bachelor’s with 4 years

  • Must be able to qualify as a General Laboratory Supervisor under CAP.

  • CLS and MLT/MLS preferred

  • Experience working with technical staff in a laboratory setting

  • Experience with phlebotomy and blood specimen processing and collection

  • Excellent time-management skills
