Automation Technician (Lorain, Ohio)
Our client, in metals/stamping, is currently hiring an Automation Technician. This position is a Direct Hire role.
The Automation Technician will be responsible for programming automation and control systems to specific design and specifications, and integration, programming, testing and startup of machinery and parts.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide technical support for production operations, technicians and engineers by launching new programs and handling engineering functions, as well as troubleshooting problems on the shop floor
Evaluate new developments and or programs in industry for possible application to current problems and to improve production processes
Create, support and read logic and flow diagrams for program design, programming, simulation testing, HMI’s, PLC programs and startup
Maintain current databases; create new databases and reports as necessary, including user screens and VBA coding
Develop and implement automated spreadsheets and reporting solutions to minimize manual clerical work. Train and assist others within the company on automated programs, provide on the job training as necessary
Prepare engineering analysis of projects to include: preliminary design, calculation and life cycle cost and equipment selection
Identify and implement process improvements, particularly through weekly Process Auditing reports and regular meetings
Provide data and reports to management for decision making/trend analysis. Create and present technical presentations to management
Function as project leader on engineering projects, manage, direct, resolve issues, work within budget and timelines
Review and ensure that standardized adopted engineering practices within the company are being followed. Review and critique proposed changes to engineering standards, policies or details.
Responsible for providing high quality, effective and efficient programming (start to finish)
Develop and implement weld, fixturing and laser/camera programs
Prepare technical PLC programs to specifications. Troubleshoot PLCs, Controllers and Tooling fixtures as well as pneumatic, electrical, mechanical and programming repairs
Develop and support programming for integration of systems with plant floor automated production and quality data collection systems, as well as plant floor networks
as customer liaison, as necessary as well as contact vendors when needed for assistance
May be required to work a flexible schedule, dependent on the needs of the manufacturing plant
An Associate’s degree in Manufacturing Technology (with emphasis in Automation) or equivalent with 5-7 years of programming experience
Knowledge of welding (knowledge and demonstrated ability of welding techniques)
Knowledge of robotic programming tools
Skills with- SQL administration, T-SQL, RSSQL design and implementation, and IQS administration, Visual Basics, Visio, Crystal Reports
Detailed knowledge of both MS Access and MS Excel (including macros)
Min. five years’ experience programming automation controls, and control systems design, specification, integration, testing and startup
