Kelly Services Packaging Engineer in Indianapolis, Indiana
Kelly Engineering has an exciting opportunity for a Packaging Engineer to join the Indianapolis Engineering Team! The Packaging Engineer designs, develops and implements complete new product packaging solutions from concept to market introduction.
Principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Coordinate and manage design, development and production of packaging components and graphics with vendors
Serve as the technical lead for packaging on specific projects and taking responsibility for all aspects of packaging design control on these projects
Work cross-functionally to develop innovative concepts and solutions for product packaging structure and graphics
Analyze packaging problems , identify root causes, and develop solution options for product packaging-related problems
Apply company standards to ensure graphics, copy and compliance / regulatory related information is properly applied and designed into packaging components
Verify and validate effectiveness of packaging designs by conducting packaging transit and environmental tests per ISTA standards.
Author and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) as needed and effectively communicate implications of packaging changes and requirements to all affected functional areas
Contribute to engineering body of knowledge by developing and documenting work instructions and standard operating procedures for packaging related components and processes.
Identify, develop and implement packaging quality improvements, cost reductions, and customizations to meet customer and market needs
Oversee and assist in the creation of packaging drawings, samples and written analysis of proposed packaging designs for approval
Develop pallet stacking patterns, product packaging layouts and instructions for assembly
Create, manage and maintain packaging attribute data within ERP/PLM system
Ensure packaging designs comply with company operations and ergonomic requirements
Education and Experience/Skills:
BS in Packaging Engineering or related degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 3+ years of related experience
Experience should include design with corrugated, folding cartons, plastic thermoforms, pulp trays and fabricated and molded cushioning foams.
Candidates must also possess a thorough knowledge of packaging development, production and printing processes, packaging material selections , engineering documentation best practices and packaging ISTA standards and testing.
Experience with design for manufacturability, ergonomics and PPAP steps for verification and validation of first production packaging from suppliers is required.
