Job Description

Manufacturing Equipment Mechanic, Direct Hire Opening, Up to $27.13/hour

Duties will include a wide variety of duties and tasks predominantly associated with the mechanical (millwright). These duties and tasks include a multitude of maintenance from basic parts replacements to equipment refurbishment to optimizing equipment performance to advanced troubleshooting.

Maintenance activities include, but are not limited to, inspection, (parts) replacements, alignment, balancing, installation, maintenance upkeep, troubleshooting and refurbishment. The Mechanic will be required to maintain mechanical power transmission equipment including drives and conveying equipment employed in a variety of factory specific applications. Fluid systems, including liquid, pneumatic, and hydraulic, will be maintained by the Mechanic. Fluid systems include pumps, valves, compressors, blowers, and fans. The Mechanic will be required to perform a variety of joining and fabrication activities. To that extent, individuals will weld, cut, braze, and solder a variety of materials. This includes welding carbon steel using the SMAW and GMAW processes and welding stainless steel metals using the SMAW process.

Must Be Comfortable In The Following:

Using a word processing software program.

Interpret drawings, blueprints, and schematics

Install, troubleshoot, and align shafts and couplings (laser or dial alignment) and valves

Cut metals using plasma and/or oxyacetylene equipment

Maintain, repair, and replace fans and blowers including airlocks (rotary valves)

Operate various pieces of mobile equipment including but not limited to fork trucks, manlifts, trucks, and skid steer loaders

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidate must, at a minimum, possess:

2-year technical degree (such as Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Design, Machinist & Toolmaker, or related degree) OR must have fully completed a state-approved millwright apprenticeship (non-ACS) AND a minimum of 2 years of full-time industrial millwright experience.

OR

A High School degree or diploma although a GED certificate is acceptable and a minimum of 5 consecutive years of full-time industrial millwright experience.

OR

Minimum of 2.5 years successful completion of the ACS House 1st Class Mechanic Apprentice.

Physical and Environmental Job Conditions

Physical duties which include, but are not limited to, the job requirements defined below. Physical Demands Daily activities include: Lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, manual tool operation, hand work, standing, walking, sitting, hand manipulation and strength, bending, twisting, reaching, squatting, crouching, kneeling and crawling. Individuals are required to climb ladders and stairs. Lifting and carrying will not be in excess of 50 lbs. Elevation: Occasionally to frequent, mechanical parts are located at heights requiring elevated work. Working with a variety of stationary equipment where elevated work is required due to confined space and limited access by ladder. The Mechanic will need to identify the safest manner in which to access the work area. The Mechanic must be able to identify where to tie off, secure the tie or lanyard, and tolerate working while tied off with a safety harness. Individuals will be required to work at elevated conditions.

Environmental Conditions

  • Work is primarily indoors, but may involve working outdoors for short periods of time. Indoor temperatures may exceed 80 degrees F and outdoor temperatures may fall below 0 degrees F.

  • Exposure to elevated work heights and/or work underground at times.

  • Exposure to fumes inside the plant; odors may vary from natural (pulp/fiber) to chemical in nature.

  • Exposure to the hazards of low, medium, and high voltage electricity.

  • Work within designated confined spaces, entry may require crouching, crawling and/or climbing.
