Kelly Services Experienced Accountant in Gulf Breeze, Florida

Job Description

Under direct supervision of the Director of Finance, performs advanced accounting work relating to the monthly close-out of the accounting cycle and the preparation of financial statements for the City of Gulf Breeze. Works closely with the Senior Accountant and Director of Finance as it relates to financial reporting on behalf of the City monthly, quarterly and during the year-end audit process. Excellent analytical skills coupled with thorough knowledge of accounting principles required. The position requires the ability to collaborate and/or deal effectively with department personnel.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Records investment activity on behalf of the City to show long-term and short-term gains and/or losses.

  2. Assists the Finance Director with cash flow analysis and investment monitoring.

  3. Verify, allocate, post and reconcile general ledger accounts to assist with the monthly close-out process and the production of error-free accounting reports for all accounting funds of the City.

  4. Preparation of journal entries needed for month-end and year-end closing processes.

  5. Prepares various audit schedules necessary to complete the comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) to include, but not limited to, fixed asset accounting and debt reporting.

  6. Assist the Finance Director with the preparation of financial statements and statistical reporting for both internal and external reporting requirements.

  7. Analyze financial information, summarize financial status and perform on-site audit reviews related to the Tiger Point Golf Course operations.

  8. Prepare external tax reports required to maintain licensure for the Tiger Point Golf Course.

  9. Works closely with third party contractor to ensure financial reporting for the Tiger Point Golf Course meets State of Florida reporting and transparency requirements; ensures golf course financial records are properly recorded and balanced to the City-s general ledger on a month basis. Monitors and reports any issues related to completion to the Director of Finance.

  10. Works with external vendor to ensure dash-board financial information is reconciled and posted to City-s web-site on a monthly basis.

  11. Work with the City-s Information Technology Department to ensure audited financial data is posted to the City-s web-site.

  12. Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Finance.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Complete working knowledge and skilled using computer applications for accounting and financial management. Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and to present findings clearly in multiple formats.

  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP); preferred knowledge related to governmental accounting practices in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Ability to design, implement and execute all accounting standards and requirements relevant to a public utility.

  • Working knowledge of Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) regulations related to investment accounting and tracking investments.

  • Ability to work with a high level of detail; ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with interruptions; ability to identify and analyze complex issues and to develop appropriate recommendations.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to effectively deal with all members of the public in a courteous and tactful manner; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers.

  • Ability to perform calculations in spreadsheets such as percentages, basic interest calculations, cost allocation plans, and linking data between workbooks in spreadsheets.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field

Fifteen years- professional experience in accounting with increased responsibilities and proven proficiency preferred.
