Kelly Scientific Resources, a division of Kelly Services has an exciting, entry-level opportunity for an Animal Care Technician to work with our client in Fontana, CA
As an Animal Care Technician / Laboratory Assistant, you will primarily and foremost be responsible for daily care & feeding of pre-operative research animals and post-operative treatment of research animals used for experimental purposes.
Schedule/Shift: Mon.-Fri., 1st shift for training. *Must be available to work weekends and holidays. After training, will work either a Sun.-Thur. or Tues.-Sat. shift.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs animal observations, and clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, performance of blood & urine tests, provision of subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous injections. May also be trained and asked to provide surgical assistance.
Responsible for inventory of all animals and animal supplies, cleaning of animal cages and racks, daily rounds, daily observation of animal health status, treatment of animals using IACUC approved protocols and provides ongoing maintenance of animal pens, cages and cage / pen cleaning equipment.
Adheres to company standard operating procedures and maintains records to comply with all current regulatory requirements. (USDA, PHS, DEA, OSHA, etc.)
Sterilizes surgical and research items using autoclaves or ethylene oxide sterilizers, and provides postoperative animal care as directed and/or required.
Assists in a wide variety of research laboratory tasks and experiments, making detailed observations, while recording & analyzing data.
May be appointed to the company IACUC, as a member after adequate training and observation.
Maintains inventory levels for a subset of specific laboratory supplies.
Performs limited troubleshooting and calibration of some laboratory instruments.
Performs or assists in the washing, drying and folding of scrubs, lab-coats surgical drapes, etc.
Washes or assists with cleaning used lab glassware, and maintains the glassware washing facility in neat and orderly condition.
May assist in solution preparation and/or provide other laboratory assistance in the research areas of the facility.
Reads & maintains SDS and other relevant records required by company protocols.
Coordinates with supervisor of vivariums regarding operational and technical issues.
May be involved in packaging and shipping duties.
Performs many other related laboratory and animal care duties as required.
Minimum High school diploma with 3-4 years of relevant animal care experience, OR
Associate degree (AS) in Animal Science field with minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience, OR
Bachelor's degree (BS) in Animal Science field with a minimum of 6 months relevant animal care experience or clinical rotations.
This position is predominately day-time with required weekend work.
Ability to use and understand basic medical terminology, and to be sensitive to the needs of caged laboratory animals.
Skill to recognize normal and abnormal body functions in a variety of laboratory animals.
Skill in clinical diagnostic lab specimen collection techniques, and ability to administer medication to laboratory animals: oral, topical, injectable.
Working knowledge of laws and regulations that govern housing and management of lab animals.
Knowledge of humane methods of euthanasia in laboratory animals, and ability to perform euthanasia as directed.
Ability to follow direction, to be thorough performing assigned tasks, and to organize work.
