Manages day-to-day operations of the Press Area. This includes Printing, Plate Making, Plate Mounting, and Ink Blending. Coordinates with Production Scheduling to meet customer order dates. Manages waste reduction and control to optimize the Press Area to the overall Plant goals. Maintains and continuously improves print quality levels to meet or exceed customer expectations. Utilizes (interview, train, motivate, direct, empower, etc.) personnel to their maximum potential with regard to their personal well being (job satisfaction, safety, morale, etc.). Plans and organizes Press Area budgets and explains variances. Collaborates with the Plant Management Team to identify, prevent and resolve issues, sets goals for Continuous Improvement projects that impact the Press Area and/or the Plant. Monitors and controls Press Area inventories. Monitors Press Area employee attendance records. Maintains Press Area activities in accordance with Corporate policies and health and safety regulations. Reviews personnel problems and recommends and implements corrective action. Reviews and investigates customer complaints. Assures Press Area facilities are in top working order. Provides reports and information on production matters to plant management. Promotes continuous improvement through area teams and area personnel involvement. Implements and maintains Quality System in the Press Area. Follows all Product Safety guidelines and procedures. Follows and uses Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). Knows and maintains respective role in Food Safety.

  • Demonstrated know-how in business administration and industrial operations, preferably in plastic films manufacturing.

  • Flexographic printing and bag-making technical background.

  • Effective human relations skills of firmness, fairness, and sensitivity in dealing with people and in resolving work-related conflicts.

  • Able to coach and develop other people.

  • The ability to identify, define, and solve problems is also a must for this position.

  • Plant management - Daily contact with Plant Manager, Director of Mfg Services, Production Area Managers, Plant Controller, Area Supervisors, Quality Supervisor, Human Resources

  • Daily contact with production schedulers, production planning supervisor, manager and director.

  • Weekly/Monthly Contact with Project Engineers, Product Development Engineers, R&D Engineers.

  • Monthly contact with engineering management.

  • Daily contact with press area, ink room and plate room personnel.

  • Daily contact with press area administrative salaried personnel.

  • Weekly/Monthly contact with press equipment suppliers and ink suppliers.

  • Contact with customers as needed, on average on a monthly basis.

  • Responsible for press area productivity, waste, quality and safety.

  • Responsible for the press area budget and maintaining press area spending within that budget.

  • Responsible to ensure press equipment is maintained and that the press technology is kept up-to-date as funding allows.

  • Responsible to ensure the press area safety manual, JSA-s, Quality System, and product standards and procedures are maintained and kept up-to-date.

Requirements

  • BS in engineering or technical field, or demonstrated equivalent experience.

  • Technical training seminars.

  • Business training seminars.

  • Work experience. Two years of management experience or five years flexographic printing experience in a process engineering or supervisory role.

  • Trade books and literature.

  • The majority of work is conducted sitting down in an office setting.

  • Some walking and climbing of stairs and ladders are required.

  • Some time is spent in production area where hearing protection, safety glasses and safety shoes are required.

  • Some exposure to breathing chemicals and solvents related to printing and plate making.

  • Occasionally need to lift items weighing up to 60 lbs.
