Purchasing Specialist - Supply Chain -
Manages day-to-day purchases of raw material stock for both facilities; checks stock inventory, and assures that all customer and company requirements are met. Coordinates the procurement and distribution of materials.
Serves as a secondary estimator, supporting the primary estimator in creating all job estimates with respect to labor and material costs.
Monitors the performance and execution of the short term detailed Production schedule and Material Requirements Plan in order to profitably utilize resources. Manages inventory to meet the needs of the master schedule that balances between customer service and inventory excellence. Continuously improves the processes around detailed scheduling and materials management.
Executes category plans to leverage volumes for the best total cost; initiate approach to supplier selection - delivery, quality, service, cost and innovation.
Interfaces with cross functional teams, Customer Service, Manufacturing and Sales departments in order to establish production scheduling requirements.
Develops and maintains an information and performance measurement system in order to ensure timely and effective implementation of improvements. Verifies the accuracy in quality and quantity of goods delivered from vendors, including following up on completion dates of orders and arranging deliveries.
Coordinates weekly sales demand and production capabilities. Identifies areas of constraint and resolves with manufacturing. Communicates changes in capacity to the team.
Manages key suppliers including performance, risk and relationship.
Updates the Supply Chain ERP system with pricing, film structure and trial orders, and utilizes system capabilities for min/max and auto-generation of demand requirements.
Maintains inventory reports with correct supplier information, film designation, delivery dates and pricing updates. Communicates the information to CSR’s and Plant Managers.
Performs monthly physical stock inventory reconciliation between perpetual rolls and scanned rolls.
Works closely with the Director of Supply Chain and sales team to develop a Supply Chain Trend Analysis and forecasting as required.
Performs additional responsibilities as needed or assigned by Management.
Determines the most cost effective, competitive pricing by maximizing material and equipment utilization; calculating unit, production, time, labor and material costs for each phase of production based on specifications outlined on Request for Estimate and entering specifications and all collected costs into Radius estimating software.
Analyzes specifications and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for printed products or services.
Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes, such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness.
Monitors and updates a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data is utilized.
Confers with head of manufacturing, project managers, sales staff and engineering to determine optimum way to run job. Develops or confirms information regarding various cost elements.
Consults with vendors or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
Reviews completed job cost reports for variances between estimated and actual costs for possible future revisions to estimate.
Provides improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.
Performs additional responsibilities as needed or assigned by Management.

Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) or equivalent from a College or technical school or a minimum of 3-5 years related experience in the printing industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in printing practices and policies. Experience in flexible packaging environment. Knowledge of Graphic Arts industry.
Knowledge and Skills:
• In-depth printing knowledge is a must.
• Ability to become knowledgeable of printing equipment, packaging equipment and respective running speeds, packaging laminations, and most efficient methods for producing any possible job.
• Excellent organization skills; detail and process-oriented.
• Positive can-do attitude is required; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Experience in managing multiple projects.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to work well under pressure.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software, Database software, Inventory software, Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software- Strong PC skills required. MS Office including databases and Excel.
A strong math aptitude. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with problems involving a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardized data exists. Ability to make decisions independently and with good common sense.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
This job operates in a professional office environment; however there is some time in the production plant, where the noise level is elevated.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
