Virtual Reality Research Lab Manager – NIH – Bethesda, MD

We are currently seeking a Virtual Reality Research Lab Manager to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD .

TASKS. The contractor shall:

  • Conduct and oversee operations in behavioral research laboratory.

  • Prepare, maintain, document and operate research tools and technologies including virtual reality, physiological measurement and electronic data collection tools.

  • Conduct behavioral experiments with human participants using these research tools and technologies, both on- and off-site.

  • Act as liaison with computer programmers and system developers for creation, modification and maintenance of virtual reality environments and other research tools and content.

  • Act as liaison with NIH education, community involvement and outreach offices; oversee scheduling and conduct laboratory tours and demonstrations.

  • Create and educate lab members and colleagues in protocols for using new research technologies and tools.

  • Collaborate with staff on planning and executing plans for the development of new research protocols and tools.

  • Work with staff on participant recruitment, scheduling and administration efforts for research protocols.

  • Oversee laboratory space, equipment use and scheduling.

  • Research and prepare documents for the procurement supplies and research equipment/tools; prepare purchase requests for execution through NIH procurement systems.

  • Create and maintain recruitment, participant, lab use and study databases.

  • Manage interface with NIH Clinical Center procedures and data systems.

  • Work with staff on data coding, preparation and analysis.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Behavioral Science, Public Health, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science of a related discipline; two (2) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelor’s degree is equivalent to a Master’s degree.

  • Two to four (2- 4) years of experience in a related field.

  • Experience conducting behavioral research protocols with human subjects.

  • Advanced knowledge of computer hardware and software applications with demonstrated ability to learn specialized computer programs.

  • Experience setting up computer hardware and the ability to troubleshoot computer problems.

  • Experience with virtual reality technology.

  • Flexible work availability to accommodate human subjects’ schedules.

  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with computer programming (e.g., Python, R, SQL), 3D graphical modeling software, and/or game development engines or a willingness to learn.
