Production Chemist I Peptide Synthesis, San Diego, CA
Kelly Scientific Resources, a division of Kelly Services, has an exciting opportunity for a Production Chemist to work with an industry-leading biotech manufacturing company located in San Diego, CA.
Overview: Manufacture peptides according to the GMPs and safety procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsiblities:
Synthesize peptides (Boc Fmos Chemistry) - solid-phase synthesis.
HF or TFA cleavage of peptides from resin.
Make necessary purification buffers.
Purify peptides using directed protocols.
Exchange peptides to the appropriate salt.
Weigh out the products and packing.
Operate within the GMP guidelines as established.
Remove all waste from production area.
Ensure that all waste containers are properly labeled.
Adhere to company policies and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.
Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment.
Represent company with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
Completing SOP, MD, production plan, variances and deviations with minimum assistance.
Document all laboratory work in assigned note books and manufacturing documents per the GMPs
Perform other duties as assigned.
Specific Equipment Used:
PH Meter, HF Apparatus, Scales/Balance, Rotary Evaporator, Mass Spectrometer, Lyophilizer, Hand Tools
Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively administer purification process (i.e., measurements, observations, etc.)
The ability to lift and carry up to fifty 50 pounds is necessary for transporting bottles, lab equipment, and solvent containers.
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or equivalent experience.
0-2 years experience in a GMP production environment performing synthesis and cleavage of peptides / oligonucleotides.
Prior experience with method development & validation, and/or GMP regulated industry is a plus.
Ability to work within the company's established safety guidelines.
Good written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing or in person.
Accurate typing/keyboarding skills; solid computer skills, including the use of word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
Knowledge of laboratory techniques and basics of peptide chemistry.
Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks; good time-management, problem prevention, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to motivate self.
Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Ability to document work neatly and orderly.
Possess a work ethic that includes neatness, punctuality, and accuracy.
