Kelly Services Production Manager in East Hartford, Connecticut


We currently have a great and rewarding opportunity for a Production Manager for one of our great clients at their East Hartford, CT facility. The Production Manager will be responsible for directing responsibilities to include the production from the paper machine to shipping by utilizing sound business principals, providing clear direction while building an effective team and while staying focused on safety and customer quality. The position provides the operations groups and maintenance group with daily support on both short and long term opportunities. Direct operational experience running paper/pulp machines considered extremely valuable. Hands on, need to have great team skills, as well as, proactive thinking.


  • Must be good at listening and open minded, highly motivated and be able to work independently and as a team with excellent interpersonal skills and written communication

  • Provide supervision, coaching and development of the operations team in theoretical and practical aspects of papermaking

  • Manage all aspects of the daily operations of paper machine and shipping: improving the safety culture, quality expectations and production goals, and driving continuous improvement projects (both long and short term)

  • Coordinate grade development trials for both internal and external customers

  • Experience with process chemical: handling, utilizing, directing operators in usage, understand the theory and be able to train operators

  • Lead outage planning and execution (planned and unplanned)

  • Assist vendors with operational issue and utilize their experience to drive to root cause

  • Ability to react under urgent timeline, balancing safety, quality and productivity

  • Demonstrate an ability to multi-task several projects and priorities simultaneously

  • Fosters relationships with sister facilities in terms of customer service and synergy as it relates to production

  • Troubleshoot daily issues and utilize root cause analysis to drive out repetitive failures

  • Assist maintenance with operational expertise in both short and long term troubleshooting.

  • Develop, complete justification, scope, plan/prepare and execute capital projects including budgets, project closure and follow-up audits.

  • Available on call and participate in weekly on call manager rotation


  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or pulp and paper science;

  • Minimum of 3-5 years in continuous industrial manufacturing with a history of increasing responsibility is required or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Direct operational experience running tissue machines will be considered extremely valuable.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows environment is required, knowledge of JD Edwards preferred.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
