Project Manager II - Denver, CO


Under general supervision, oversees various systems projects of a highly complex nature; assembles project team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of project. This role will employ sound project management practices, build project plans for IT and business related projects and identify timing and resources required to achieve deliverables.

The level II Project Manager will manage (scope, cost and resources), report status and communicate effectively to stakeholders and team members of assigned projects. This position will estimate resources and participants needed to achieve project goals and determine the need for additional staff and/or consultants and makes appropriate request for additional personnel. Seeks opportunities to improve productivity, cost containment and improve project performance. The Project Manager must demonstrate and participate in process improvement, change control activities and employ project management methodologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  1. Communicate schedule of deliverables, work packages and schedules with team members.

  2. Coordinate project activities with project team.

  3. Communicate milestone deliverables with project stakeholders and IT departments.

  4. Communicate system and user impacts of planned project activities through defined business processes.

  5. Collaborates to develop, and appropriately executes, a communication strategy, including stakeholder analysis, ongoing communications and adoption plans.

  6. Participates in the requirements development process for assigned projects.

  7. Documents project plans, schedules, tracks and monitors project timelines, milestones and deliverables with appropriate tools.

  8. Negotiates with department managers, when necessary, regarding the support of required personnel within the company to ensure project continuity through completion.

  9. Manages relationships across organization and divisions to develop a thorough understanding of core business functions and align project with overall business objectives.

  10. Assist in developing and monitors scope, schedule and cost baselines for assigned projects.

  11. Provides weekly status reports for assigned projects through defined status reporting processes to management, project team and other project participants.

  12. Seeks opportunities to improve productivity, project costs, and improve project performance as related to cost, budget and schedules of defined projects.

  13. Develops and maintains relationships across the company to develop understanding of core business functions, processes, challenges and opportunities.

  14. Conduct risk analysis, monitor schedule, budget and scope changes through audit and monitoring techniques.

  15. Conducts periodic and post mortem assessments of project a team performance.

  16. Monitor and document project team performance.

  17. Documents project plans, risks, changes and schedules of assigned projects.

  18. Participates in project change management process within the organization.

  19. Work with all a wide variety of business and IT departments to integrate new systems/applications.

  20. Manage development and delivery of end user training materials for assigned projects

  21. Performs related duties as required or assigned.

  22. Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices and ensures that employees observe all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injuries or damage; schedules periodic safety meetings and solicits recommended changes to improve safety procedures.

  23. Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field and four (4) years of systems, analysis/ programming and/or project management related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • Advanced communications oral/writing skills.

  • Competent writing of project charters.

  • Competent writing and building of resource plans.

  • Build and maintain project schedules and identify dependencies.

  • Manage project communications with business and stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage vendor and procurement resources.

  • Competently manage and track budgets.

  • Manage project timelines and control deliverables within these timelines.

  • Ability to manage multiple small to medium scale projects simultaneously.

  • Motivated, self-directed and results oriented.

  • Ability to work against deadlines.

  • Ability to solve problems, make/ communicate decisions, resolve issues and conflicts.

  • Strong quality and customer service orientation.

  • Ability to collaborate, manage relationships and demonstrated influencing skills.

  • Demonstrates advanced presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

  • Advanced demonstration of judgement/digression and interviewing techniques.

  • Competent use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and Microsoft Project tools.

  • Basic understanding of IT systems and principles (wireless, networks, data storage, virtualization, network operations, and applications/web development).

  • Ability to apply software development techniques (Agile and Waterfall).

  • Project management and IT certifications are encouraged but not required.

Work Environment / Physical Activity:

  • Works in an office setting and generally sedentary, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

  • May be required to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 25 pounds.

  • Occasional travel may be required.
