Systems Control Engineer

Dearborn, MI

Position Description:

Design, validate, and maintain on-board diagnostics (OBD-II) for powertrain controls. OBD-II is organized into major diagnostic monitor such adaptive fuel, catalyst, evaporative system, misfire, EGR/VCT, O2 sensors, and comprehensive components monitors. Responsibilities include:

  1. Developing control system specifications to meet regulatory requirements,

  2. Working in a hands-on environment to design and validate that diagnostic system hardware and software meet requirements.

  3. Author calibration guidelines,

  4. Support subsystem feature team meetings to present new concepts and resolve issues.

Skills Required:

  1. Working knowledge of product development system engineering principles

  2. Working knowledge of basic combustion engine operating principles

  3. Understanding basic principles of controls engineering

  4. Working knowledge of and testing techniques

Skills Preferred:

  1. Familiarity with software integration and debug

  2. Practical ability to test, debug, and validate software in vehicle and dyno settings

Experience Required:

2 years developing powertrain control systems

Experience Preferred:

  1. Proactive individual, outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills,

  2. Exceptional work planning and data analysis skills

  3. Powertrain or OBD-II calibration experience preferred,

  4. Personal computer skills with major applications such as EXCEL. MATLAB

  5. Experience developing embedded control algorithms

  6. Experience using Ford internal tools to develop, implement and release feature code

  7. Expertise in use of calibration development tools

  8. Familiarity with and access to Ford Motor Company test facilities

  9. Experience performing vehicle, dyno & software debugging

Education Required:

  • BSEE, BSME and/or BS-Computer Science/Engineering

Education Preferred:

  • MSEE, MSME and/or MS-Computer Science/Engineering
