Kelly Services has partnered with a Leading Organization in Columbus, IN seeking a Technical Writer to write technical materials, such as equipment materials, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions. Responsible for organizing, editing and maintaining technical records and files. The technical skills include the knowledge of technical language and writing skill.

Pay Rate: $32.00 per hour

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with department SMEs to develop and help maintain documentation that answers regularly asked questions via their North American Contact Center. They are looking to capture and document the answers to the questions most regularly asked so that no matter whom answers those calls, the response that person will receive will be the same no matter whom they talk to.

  • Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology.

  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions. Would be owner of the needed documentation for things assigned to them as needed.

  • Confer with client to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publication. This is where the selected hires would be working with the SMEs on the content that needs to be capture for documentation purposes.

Technical Skills/Experience

  • A Bachelors’ degree is a requirement for this request. Manager is seeking this level of education as this helps confirm the level of dedication someone has in order to complete said degree as well as the maturity level of that candidate.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ relative working experience in technical writing is required. While experience in the automotive industry doing technical writing would be helpful, it is not required. As long as someone has the technical writing experience in their background, that is what is most important to the manager.

  • Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar

  • Basic knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods

  • Basic knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design.

  • Basic knowledge of computer software, such as Adobe, JavaScript, Oracle, etc.
