PROJECT DESIGN ENGINEER

The Project Engineer will be responsible for managing project efforts in pursuit of FAA Parts Manufacturing Approval for airworthy flight hardware.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop design substantiation packages for FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval applications

Develop 3D models and drawings for airworthy flight hardware

Assist in the development of manufacturing processes for airworthy flight hardware

Coordinate conformity inspection activities between the company’s Quality Assurance department,

ODA, and FAA liaison

Assist in the development of customer evaluation packages for new flight hardware

Develop vendor substantiation requirements for outside manufacturing vendors

Support activities related to new vendor qualification, including new vendor identification and selection

Support QA department and vendors regarding drawing interpretation, manufacturing methods, inspection methods, etc.

Participate in the disposition of non-conforming materials, including analyzing the non-conformance for fit, function, safety, and reliability, and communicating with QA, suppliers, and the FAA liaison as required

Complete Engineering Change Notices and drawing changes as required for produce-ability

Answering questions from customers and operators regarding our products

Other duties may be assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering

EXPERIENCE

3-7 years aerospace / mechanical design experience

Experience using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Pro-Engineer, etc.)

Experience with the interpretation and application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5M)

Experience in 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 25, and/or 33 type certification projects preferred

Knowledge of aircraft engine components, controls & accessories, and/or aircraft interiors is preferred

Knowledge of basic structural, thermal, and modal analysis of mechanical components is required

Knowledge of aerospace materials and coatings is preferred

Knowledge of conventional aerospace manufacturing methods, including; milling, turning, grinding,

lapping, stamping, forging, casting, molding, EDM, ECM, welding, brazing, heat treating, etc. is

preferred

A high attention to detail is required

Must be flexible in handling multiple tasks

Must have excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES

  • Language: English      

  • Computer Skills: MS Office, 3D CAD software (Solidworks, Pro-E, etc)

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Reasoning Abilities: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Position will work primarily in an office environment with low noise level, but may have some exposure to the manufacturing floor which has mid to high noise level with exposure to manufacturing machinery / equipment/chemicals
